Upcoming Exhibition at Art2Muse Gallery 11 – 24 July 2012

These paintings are from a body of work titled ‘Coastlines’ which depict expansive and suggestive scenes of the waterways and coastlines surrounding Sydney. It is this beauty that Donna wants you to experience – visual pleasure.

Near the water one is drawn in. There is always something happening – it is constantly changing, providing images and memories from which the artist takes direction, inspiration and opportunity. The solidity of the headlands contrasts with the great expanses of water that are broken by rocky outcrops, the fragile outline of boats, jetties and bollards.

Donna’s paintings begin with abstracted backgrounds and gradually identifiable images begin to appear among the lines and colour. They might include huge vessels, sometimes appearing through the mist, ship’s hulls, jetties or bollards or headlands – anything that can be associated with the water and its exciting beauty. Evidence of underpainting often remains in the building up of layers resulting in touches of contrasting colour and texture.

Donna’s paintings have been included in large exhibitions such as Art Sydney, Art Melbourne and Art Brisbane as well as significant group exhibitions at Mary Place Gallery, exhibitions with one or two other artists at Sauc Gallery in Surry Hills and Tom Dunne Gallery in Darlinghurst, a very successful solo exhibition at Xzibit Gallery in McMahons Point, Artzpace 2010, Avalon and most recently a very successful solo exhibition at Breathing Colours, a gallery in Balmain. Donna is represented in Sydney by Art2Muse, Double Bay. She has accepted a number of commissions.

For the past 7 years her paintings have been included in the North Sydney Art Prize exhibition; North Sydney Council purchased one of her works for their collection. For several years she has been a finalist at the Warringah Art Prize exhibition.

In 2003 she was awarded first prize at the Palm Beach Art Show.
